Emerging Horizons: Samsung and LG Unveil Transparent Displays, Marking the Spectacular Start of CES 2024

Emerging Horizons: Samsung and LG Unveil Transparent Displays, Marking the Spectacular Start of CES 2024

Get ready for the excitement in Las Vegas! As per my contractual obligation, I must include the phrase "Viva Las Vegas!" in one of our CES 2024 posts, so I'll get it out of the way early. This year, LG and Samsung made quite an impression by unveiling their respective transparent displays, which may seem similar but are actually quite distinct from a technical standpoint. These displays were showcased for the gathered media and analysts, leaving them intrigued and pondering the purpose behind such innovative technology.

Now, let's start with LG. They introduced a wireless transparent OLED, called the 77-inch OLED T, which utilizes their wireless transmission technology. This technology reduces the need for excessive wiring, focusing solely on powering the display. To ensure that the display maintains deep black levels, LG incorporated a contrast screen that rolls down into a box located at the base of the OLED T.

Shortly after LG's announcement, Samsung revealed its own transparent display, but with a twist. They utilized MicroLED technology for their display, which they showcased side-by-side with transparent OLED and transparent LCD models, highlighting the superior brightness capabilities of MicroLED. Not only was it bezel-less, but it also boasted a frameless design.

Despite these impressive unveilings, many questions still linger. People are eager to know about the pricing, availability, and, once again, the rationale behind these displays. LG and Samsung are now tasked with making a compelling case for these undoubtedly expensive displays.

Is MSI hinting at a competitor to the Steam Deck? It seems that way, considering that Asus, Lenovo, and now MSI, all major PC gaming brands, are gearing up to rival Valve's Steam Deck. MSI's teaser on Instagram for their upcoming CES announcement doesn't reveal much about the specifications or features of their competitor. However, it does suggest that there will be plenty of fan grills and RGB lighting.

For the second consecutive year, Sony will not be unveiling new TVs at CES. Sony has broken away from the industry tradition of announcing their latest TV models at CES each year. Instead, they skipped the event in Las Vegas and chose to introduce their 2023 lineup in March of that year. Even then, the highly acclaimed A95 QD-OLED TV didn't become available until the autumn. It's clear that Sony is following a different timeline compared to other TV manufacturers nowadays.

Therefore, it's not surprising that Digital Trends' Caleb Denison reports that Sony won't be showcasing new TVs at CES 2024. It seems that Sony has been making significant advancements in Mini LED backlighting, which will be incorporated into their upcoming models whenever they are ready.

Despite the absence of new TVs, Sony is still hosting a press conference on January 8th, so there's a possibility of getting another glimpse of Afeela at this year's show.

AT&T is providing cellular connectivity for a security camera. The Remo Plus DoorCam 3 Plus LTE will utilize AT&T's LTE network as a backup in case the camera's Wi-Fi connection drops. While this isn't the first security camera with cellular connectivity, it's good to see this feature becoming more widespread across different camera models. The DoorCam 3 Plus LTE is expected to launch around late March, with pricing details becoming available around the same time according to AT&T's Mike Van Horn.

Navigating the Professional Abyss: Unforgettable Career Turmoil in 2023

Navigating the Professional Abyss: Unforgettable Career Turmoil in 2023

From arrogance and offensive language to poor decision-making and a touch of misfortune, our yearly compilation showcases the humbling descent of even the most powerful individuals.

Amidst a backdrop of job cuts, financial instability, and dwindling investor tolerance, numerous individuals confronted the consequences of a period marked by years of effortless prosperity. Yet, some professional trajectories were disrupted for distinctly personal motives. Ranging from financial crises and concealed gold reserves to habitual fabrication, the elements contributing to certain high-profile career declines appeared unusually extraordinary this year.

In a year full of notable events, one incident stood out as a turning point. It involved a cable TV host who had built a reputation for exploiting the fears of white viewers, but this time, he crossed a line that was deemed unacceptable. Another significant development was the removal of a political figure who had long desired a particular job. However, less than ten months later, this individual was ousted in a historic manner. Additionally, the president of a prestigious university had a disastrous performance on Capitol Hill, leading to her resignation.

These individuals, along with others who were once influential, form Forbes' annual compilation of career crashes. These are people who were at or near the pinnacle of their respective fields but experienced a downfall that sheds light on some of the crucial issues of our time. It's worth noting that some familiar names are absent from the list. For instance, Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of FTX, was found guilty of fraud and conspiracy charges recently, but he had already made the list last year due to the collapse of his company. Similarly, Elon Musk's 2023 was marked by a series of leadership failures, including arbitrary staff cuts, alleged breaches of bonus agreements at X (formerly Twitter), and an on-stage meltdown where he responded aggressively to advertisers after some had withdrawn support following his approval of an antisemitic tweet. Musk, too, appeared on the list last year.

It is important to recognize that this compilation is not a gallery of villains. Some of the individuals mentioned brought about their own downfall, while others faced setbacks for more ambiguous reasons such as underwhelming business performance, a loss of trust in their leadership, or allegations that have yet to be substantiated. It remains possible for them to bounce back and find success elsewhere, or even reclaim their former positions of prominence. The ability to resurrect one's career is a skill, and it is a phenomenon that Americans, in particular, often admire and celebrate. After all, failure can provide valuable lessons for achieving success.
