Seven hundred dollars. That's the hefty price tag attached to the long-awaited Humane AI Pin, a wearable device that has generated significant hype and curiosity over the past year. However, even after its release, numerous questions remain unanswered.

In an episode of The Vergecast, the hosts undertake an in-depth review of the AI Pin, delving into its features and functionality to determine what went wrong with the device and whether it has a viable future. One of the main issues they encounter is the complex layering of new technologies within the Pin. The integration of various cutting-edge technologies seems to have led to a less-than-optimal user experience.

The hosts highlight the importance of seamless integration and flawless performance when it comes to these AI-powered gadgets. They emphasize that until the different components work together seamlessly, the overall functionality and usability of the device will suffer.

In addition to the challenges with performance, the staggering price of $700 raises eyebrows. The hosts express disbelief and concern about the high cost, questioning whether the AI Pin justifies such a substantial investment.

Following that, they engage in a discussion about the widening divide between OpenAI and the rest of the online community. Emerging Horizons: Samsung and LG Unveil Transparent Displays, Marking the Spectacular Start of CES 2024

Emerging Horizons: Samsung and LG Unveil Transparent Displays, Marking the Spectacular Start of CES 2024

Get ready for the excitement in Las Vegas! As per my contractual obligation, I must include the phrase "Viva Las Vegas!" in one of our CES 2024 posts, so I'll get it out of the way early. This year, LG and Samsung made quite an impression by unveiling their respective transparent displays, which may seem similar but are actually quite distinct from a technical standpoint. These displays were showcased for the gathered media and analysts, leaving them intrigued and pondering the purpose behind such innovative technology.

Now, let's start with LG. They introduced a wireless transparent OLED, called the 77-inch OLED T, which utilizes their wireless transmission technology. This technology reduces the need for excessive wiring, focusing solely on powering the display. To ensure that the display maintains deep black levels, LG incorporated a contrast screen that rolls down into a box located at the base of the OLED T.

Shortly after LG's announcement, Samsung revealed its own transparent display, but with a twist. They utilized MicroLED technology for their display, which they showcased side-by-side with transparent OLED and transparent LCD models, highlighting the superior brightness capabilities of MicroLED. Not only was it bezel-less, but it also boasted a frameless design.

Despite these impressive unveilings, many questions still linger. People are eager to know about the pricing, availability, and, once again, the rationale behind these displays. LG and Samsung are now tasked with making a compelling case for these undoubtedly expensive displays.

Is MSI hinting at a competitor to the Steam Deck? It seems that way, considering that Asus, Lenovo, and now MSI, all major PC gaming brands, are gearing up to rival Valve's Steam Deck. MSI's teaser on Instagram for their upcoming CES announcement doesn't reveal much about the specifications or features of their competitor. However, it does suggest that there will be plenty of fan grills and RGB lighting.

For the second consecutive year, Sony will not be unveiling new TVs at CES. Sony has broken away from the industry tradition of announcing their latest TV models at CES each year. Instead, they skipped the event in Las Vegas and chose to introduce their 2023 lineup in March of that year. Even then, the highly acclaimed A95 QD-OLED TV didn't become available until the autumn. It's clear that Sony is following a different timeline compared to other TV manufacturers nowadays.

Therefore, it's not surprising that Digital Trends' Caleb Denison reports that Sony won't be showcasing new TVs at CES 2024. It seems that Sony has been making significant advancements in Mini LED backlighting, which will be incorporated into their upcoming models whenever they are ready.

Despite the absence of new TVs, Sony is still hosting a press conference on January 8th, so there's a possibility of getting another glimpse of Afeela at this year's show.

AT&T is providing cellular connectivity for a security camera. The Remo Plus DoorCam 3 Plus LTE will utilize AT&T's LTE network as a backup in case the camera's Wi-Fi connection drops. While this isn't the first security camera with cellular connectivity, it's good to see this feature becoming more widespread across different camera models. The DoorCam 3 Plus LTE is expected to launch around late March, with pricing details becoming available around the same time according to AT&T's Mike Van Horn.
